Leaning form the Scriptures

Nephi and the Brass Plates

1 Nephi 3:7
And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said unto my father: I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them. c

This has always been a favorite story of  mine because I love how willing Nephi is to go and do every thing the Lord asks.
When Nephi's father Lehi tells his sons that he has just been told by the  Lord to go and to get the brass plates from Laban in Jerusalem, Nephi's brothers complain and wine and really do not want to go back to get the plates from someone as powerful as Laban. Nephi on the other hand understood the importance of fallowing his father who who had received revelation from the Lord of the importance of having the scriptures which the brass plates were. Nephi and his brothers go to Jerusalem and try several ways to get to get plates from Laban but  they had no success in fact they wanted to give up after Laban had tried to kill them. Nephi will not give up he had gained a testimony earlier that his father was speaking for God and he would not give up. so Nephi by himself goes back and ends up getting the plates of brass only as he relied upon the Lord to guide him what to do and were to go. because Nephi was persistent even though the hard times his whole family and posterity would be blessed by having the plates that contained the Scriptures.

So one of the lesson I have learned from this story is that no matter what if the Lord ask something of us directly or if a he asks though his prophets we should always be like Nephi and trust that the lord will bless us for our obedience and help us to to accomplish the thing that he has asked. Another thing that I love from this story is the the persistence to never give up and being patient . The things the Lord asks of us can be hard but he always has a reason  for asking and giving commandments and it always leads to being happy.
